Dyspepsia
Dyspepsia is a nonspecific group of symptoms related to the upper gastrointestinal tract.
Causes:
(a) Upper gastrointestinal disorder:
- peptic ulcer disease
- Gastro- esophageal reflux disease
- motility disorder
-Acute gastritis
(b) Other gastrointestinal disease:
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- pancreatitis
- Hepatitis
- Colonic carcinoma
(C) systemic disease :
- Renal failure
- Hypercalcaemia
(d)Drugs :- Non steroidal anti -inflammatory
drug (NSAID)
- Iron therapy
- Corticosteroids
- Digoxin
(e)Other : -Alcohol
- pregnancy
- Anxiety
Clinical features:
- Epigastric or retrosternal discomfort
related to hunger
- weight loss
- Anaemia
- vomiting
- Hematemesis and malaena
- Dysphagia
- palpable abdominal mass
Investigations:
- Upper GI endoscopy
- Hb% TC ,DC,ESR
- Liver function tests
- Barium Swallow x-Ray
