VASECTOMY 

division of a vas deference is called vasectomy.

INDICATIONS:-

 family planning

CONTRAINDICATIONS :- 

suspected testicular malignancy

Tubercular epididymo- orchitis 

POSITION:- 

supine 

ANAESTHESIA:- Local 2% lignocaine 

PROCEDURE :- 

• Cleaning and draping of scrotum

• vas is felt at the root of scrotum between the index finger and thumb 

• lignocaine is infiltrate and wait for 3-5 minutes

• an incision of 2-4 cm is made in root of scrotum and it is dependend through layer of scrotum

• an allis forcep is introduced within the incision and spermatic cord us held. During this step fingers of the other hand help in guiding locating stabilizing the cord.the covering of the cord is incised.

• vas is separated 

• division of vas by three clamps method 

• vas is cut in two places A and B so that a pieces of vas is removed

• Two cut ends of vas are doubly ligated by using silk thread.

• skin is closed.

• apply coconut bandage to support scrotum.

POST OPERATIVE CARE 

• rest for few hours

• antibiotics and analgesic

COMPLICATIONS

• haematoma

• wound infection 

• testicular atrophy

• reunion of canal - failure of vasectomy 

Advice at discharge 

Use of alternative family planning methods till absent of sperm in ejaculatory fluid.
